19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
